caldecottBest Books of the Year

Welcome to 2017 and one of our favorite times of year!  The list of award-winning books has been announced.  This year’s Caldecott awarded for the most distinguished American picture book for children is “Radiant Child: The Story of Young Artist Jean-Michael Basquiat,” illustrated by Javaka Steptoe. The Newbery awarded for the most outstanding contribution to children’s literature is “The Girl Who Drank the Moon,” written by Kelly Barnhill. Check out these books and lots more on the complete list of award winners compiled by the American Library Association.

Another great list of best books of 2016: Librarian extraordinaire Betsy Bird has compiled a list of her favorite children’s book titles in all categories on her “A Fuse8 production” blog. Ms. Bird compiled 31 lists in 31 days! Then completed this final list of her top 100 books of the year. Enjoy some of the amazing books from this past year and let us know, what were your favorite books of the year?

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

We are having so much fun with the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program @ the library.  What we really LOVE are all the preschoolers and parents reading together!  Check out the “Wall of Fame” with the list of readers on their way to 1,000 books.  The fabulous Betsy Bird (librarian and book reviewer)  in addition to having a great name (and blog) has compiled a list for School Library Journal of the Top 100 Picture Books. It’s a good source to find books to read together.

Check out Betsy’s Blog and the list of picture books:
